LEC Summer Finals Viewership Update

As the inaugural season of the LEC comes to a close, here’s our final viewership update of the year.

G2 Esports have established themselves as the best team in Europe. The momentum they built from Spring and the Mid-Season Invitational continued throughout the Summer Split, leading them to claim the title of Champions at the Summer Finals in Athens last weekend.

G2 weren’t the only ones building momentum, however, as the LEC’s viewership has continued to grow throughout the year. Now that the dust has settled, we can proudly announce that the 2019 Summer Finals were the second-most viewed in European history, behind only that of 2015 - our highest viewed year to date. The number of hours viewed during the 2019 Summer Finals was up a whopping 97% from the 2018 Summer Finals, the single largest year-on-year growth ever. In fact, we saw massive growth in all of our viewership metrics from our English, Spanish, French, and German streams across the board this year.

On average, 517,018 fans watched the 2019 Summer Finals at the same time (Average Minute Audience), compared with 355,568 fans in 2018 - a growth of 45.4%. The concurrent audience peaked at 864,337 fans, which is 67% up from 2018’s 517,548.

We couldn’t be happier with the success of the first year of the LEC. From our incredible viewership growth, to G2 Esports re-establishing Europe as a global force to be reckoned with, to each and every viewer tuning in week over week, thank you. With Worlds coming up in Europe in a few weeks the LEC is already represented by two teams operating at their peak performance in Fnatic and G2, who will be the third to join them on the international stage? Tune in to the Regional Qualifiers to see if Splyce, Origen, or Schalke 04 will join them, beginning tonight (Friday, September 13th) at 18:00 CEST on watch.lolesports.com!
